Assignment 2 Post 1

My topic for this writing project is determining to what extent vaccine mandates should be allowed.  Obviously, in this topic there are the black and white perspectives of "everyone should be vaccinated" and "vaccines are not for everyone and should not be required. People posses multiple reasons for supporting both of these perspectives. My articles shared a variety of arguments in favor of both of these two arguments as well as insights into why people support them.  In my first article, the author clearly supported vaccines, specifically against covid. However, the author also argued that the continuation of vaccine mandates was unnecessary given the evolving situation. For example, vaccines were nearly ineffective at stopping the spread of the omicron variant, so the other believed that mandating them was unnecessary. Assignment 1 Post 2

After completing in-class work and revising my paper, my position is still relatively similar. I plan to focus on mainly the values of Dr. Patch as he is the main character. However, I will still be using examples from the three other characters I mentioned, Mitch, Carin, and Walcott, to contrast with the values of Patch as well as the effect that he has on those around him. One development I have had though was my opinion of the values presented in Patch Adams. While I agree that empathy and compassion are important when treating patients, I believe that the movie takes these values a little too far. I feel that the rules exist for a reason, so the fact that Patch does not face any repercussions for practicing feels a little unrealistic and also unsafe for patients. I plan to write a paragraph expressing this opinion as well as refuting a counterpoint that agrees whole-heartedly with the values expressed in Patch Adams.

As he interacts with the other patients at the hospital, he realizes that he wants to become a doctor to help people. Patch attempts to fight against this system by establishing a personal connection with patients and using laughter as a form of therapy, much to the disdain of his superiors.  Here, Dr. Patch is portrayed with a clown nose. Throughout the move, Patch is portrayed as genuinely kind and selfless. He truly desires nothing more than to help his patients. While he seems unorthodox at first, all of the other cha...
